Is it hard to date as a Vegan? Featuring @greengir Is it hard to date as a Vegan? Featuring @greengirlleah 🌎♥️ 🥕? Many of you have asked for a small collaboration with your favorite environmentalists and we answer some personal questions about our lives! I took the entire past year not dating anyone and taking myself out on solo dates and learned a lot about what I want to have in my personal life. The truth is the climate crisis is a romantic crisis because many of us are already witnessing high levels of trauma.
As I’ve gotten older my responses to dating have always been, I’m not sure anymore. I would love to date someone who strongly plant based, or Vegab because I personally wouldn’t want meat, dairy, or eggs in my home. When I dated a Vegeterian I think we had similar shared beliefs but the truth is that one of our biggest disagreements was over why they didn’t want to be Vegan since they had been Vegeterian for years. It did bother me actually and I’d say now I do strongly identify with dating someone who is plant based at least.
Eat your fruits and veggies everyone because the only way to love yourself sustainably is to nourish your roots. Love will eventually come after but until then I’ve been enjoying being single and just learning more about myself every day 🌎☺️📖

What does it mean to create a plant-based food sys What does it mean to create a plant-based food system that acknowledges food, land, and seed sovereignty? As someone who has worked with several agroecological groups, farm workers, and reading from Global South farm workers, I’m worried that their voices are often left out of the decision and thinking processes of what a Vegan food system can be in our world.
When people ask me about vegan or plant based capitalism, I say we have to be very clear in how we characterize businesses. I believe that are really great brands out there who are doing the work but the truth is that I wish they could do more to learn more about the plight of the farmers that are fighting off large monopolies and industrial food systems. When I read Bill Gates book on Climate Change, I was horrified when he said that Global South farmers struggle to produce food because they have cheap equipment and poor technology, which to me showcases the mentality of a lot of peoples mindsets around the topics of food. We need to be able to address racism, capitalism, and ongoing deletion of biodiversity by these mono cultural industrial systems.
In my YouTube Video I discuss 3 brands that have lost my confidence in as a consumer and why I stoped supporting them. I’ve become a consumer advocate to empower consumers to ask questions. It should not be controversial as consumers to ask for transparent questions and have a conversation with businesses. However, when that is shut off, we are only making the situation worse.

What is Vegan Capitalism? How can we hold Vegan br What is Vegan Capitalism? How can we hold Vegan brands to a standard that recognizes sustainability, diversity, and ecologically sound practices are centered? In my latest youtube video, I discuss three Vegan brands that I have lost confidence in as a consumer for failing to address and improve their practices when it comes to worker exploitation of Black and Brown women, firing people without notice, and building a brand on sustainability without doing the actual work.
Before I preface the term vegan capitalism, I want to be clear that we should ensure as ethical consumers that Vegan businesses continue to use ethical practices. While it is true that the plant-based meat industry is evolving into new sectors, I hope there are the right people who will be shifting conversations. However, as someone who leans onto food, land, and seed sovereignty, every future of food tech conversations does not incorporate these themed messages. How do we ensure that rural farmers are included in these conversations around vegan businesses? What does it mean to create an ethical plant-based food system rooted in harmony, justice, and decentralization of large monopolies?
Oatly is a unique company that I decided to highlight in this video because of its continuous disappointment with me as a consumer and why I no longer support the business. Please watch if you are looking for a theoretical and analytical review of how we can ensure that plant-based industries are grounded in ethical practices. Support local BIPOC Vegan owned brands, LGBT-owned Vegan Brands, Disabled Vegan Owned Brands, and Women-owned Vegan brands because they are often the ones left out of these conversations to create ethical food systems.

My first speaking event in Los Angeles after movin My first speaking event in Los Angeles after moving back to California was magical. When @betterearthmedia invited me to speak at SOHO house I was delighted to be working with some environmentalists like @maggiembaird of @supportandfeed , @whyonearthfilm Film Director Katie Cleary (who I also watched on Americas Next Top Model years ago when I was a child!!!), and @see.jane.do.everything , and @inanna_music
I’ve been finding my voice as a public speaker over the last few years and everytime I speak I think about storytelling. Stories are what brings people together, comedy is what disarms our minds, and education is what leads us to feel empowered than disempowered.
I’m planning to do more public speaking as I continue to grow my platform and voice. If you are ever looking to collaborate to co host events, moderate panels, or have me at your events. Consider saying my name, that’s all I ask as most of the times I’ve gotten booked were through word of mouth. So thank you so much everyone ♥️🙏🏽

There has been lots of conversations about de-infl There has been lots of conversations about de-influencing. Recently I was a brand partner for a great company and they decided to not move forward with me after asking more questions. It was truly heartbreaking but I realized that the influencer models were never built on sustainability in terms of being able to build long term wealth. In fact, I’ve never wanted the influencer title but understand that it’s apart of the dominant social media movement.
I am a creative: I want to produce, I want to write, and I want to be speaking more this year in 2023. I love the brand partners I’ve closely identified and have built long term relationships with but it also makes me realize how much excess items will my community withstand before calling me a sell out? I recently did a video on climate influencers that I suggest you watch because there is tons of great information.
I’m privileged to have a platform but I also understand this community’s feeling: we want less ads, but I need more funding to prevent myself to be able to fund my career, family, and workers. I wish brands gave us more funding to talk about storytelling without the inclusion of having a product in the conversation. I don’t like doing ads that make it seem like I force myself to love everything about it while understanding not all companies are perfect.
What are your thoughts on deinfluencing?

Dismantling white supremacy is a form of environme Dismantling white supremacy is a form of environmentalism. The links between police brutality, white supremacy, and climate justice have been well documented. Environmental land defender, Manuel Esteban Paez Terán, who opposed a cop training facility, was unalived by the police last week.
Protests had begun in late 2021, after the then-Atlanta mayor, announced plans for the training center. The forest had been named in city plans four years earlier as a key part of efforts to maintain Atlanta’s renowned tree canopy as a buffer against climate change..
Most of the residents in neighborhoods around the forest are Black and municipal planning has neglected the area for decades. The plans to preserve the forest and make it a historic public amenity were adopted in 2017 as part of Atlanta’s city charter, or constitution. But the Atlanta city council wound up approving the training center anyway, and a movement to “Stop Cop City” began in response.
While people are stating that state killings of environmental activists are common in other countries, but never happens in the U.S. we have to remind ourselves that environmental racism has been slowly killing Black, Indigenous, and POC. Please consider supporting the following pages and talk about the ongoing issue. Follow @defendatlantaforest for more information and resources to mutual aid sites.

Individual actions don't solve the climate crisis Individual actions don't solve the climate crisis but that's not why many of us change our lifestyles. We do it because it's how we'd prefer to live and how we nourish our connections with our ecosystems. Anyone discouraging individual action is missing this critical point.
If I was attending a panel being told what is one thing I can do to help the world, I’d probably lose it because many of us are the brink of breakdowns and experiencing multitudes of crises.
But, how about we invert the question to ask, in your heart, what is one thing that brings you enjoyment, peace, and satisfaction. How can we kindle that energy, action, and momentum to something more sustainable, not to the point where we obsess ourselves over the value but explore different emotions and relationships to how it affects the ecosystem.
I know every one of you that follows me here doesn’t have the same lifestyle as me nor do I assume you should follow it but to find peace at what you can do. Sure, it may not be making the systemic change needed but it’s a cultural shift within your ecosystem. The more you harness the power, the more you become understanding of what needs to be done. To each their own, we find shelter and comfort in our ecosystems that will never be the same but that doesn’t mean we can progress for a kinder, compassionate, world.

Something is lurking in your local supermarket. In Something is lurking in your local supermarket. Invisible gasses that destroy our climate are leaking from refrigerated aisles.

Using high-tech equipment, The Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) investigated Walmart and other supermarkets to reveal the ongoing problem hidden in plain sight. HFCs, also known as HydroFluroCarbons, are invisible greenhouse gases that cool our food. Supermarkets use a ton of them, and the problem is that supermarkets are prone to leaking HFC, which is way worse than carbon dioxide.

In the US, the average supermarket leaks hundreds of pounds of HFCS. These harmful greenhouse gas emissions can be solved quickly, yet there is no accountability. Experts used an HFC leak detector and optical gas imaging camera and found in one aisle of dairy products to see the invisible gas leaking. The particular HFC has a global warming potential about 4,000 times worse than CO2.

Supermarkets must control the leaking pollutants and move to HFC-free technology for the sake of the climate and our health. What do you think of the current issue?

Why are there barely any environmentalists of colo Why are there barely any environmentalists of color who have environmental science degrees? The most common ethnicity of environmental scientists is White, which is around 86%, followed by Hispanics or Latinos at 4.7%, Asians at 3.6% and African Americans at 1.3%, and American Indian/ Alaskan natives at 0.4%. As someone who majored in Environmental Science at UC Berkeley, a self-proclaimed liberal and diverse school, I know their departments lacked diversity. When I was there, there were hardly any POC in my environmental courses, and the graduate students or professors were rarely BIPOC. It made me question if I was smart enough to be here.
I will never forget one instance of a White environmental professor who mistaken me for another Latino student in his class when he told me, “I know you told me you had a hard life in Mexico.” I responded that I was never born in Mexico. He then said, oh, I’m so sorry, I got you confused. I’m not racist, and I didn’t mean that. I have a biracial child. So, what if you have a bi-racial child, it doesn’t excuse you from your racism? There were barely any of us in the class that was POC but to be confused with another peer didn’t sit well with me. Another time, I had a graduate instructor tell me my name was too difficult to pronounce, and I responded that if you can pronounce European last names easily, you can pronounce my name.
There are barely any safe spaces for BIPOC to thrive in environmental science degrees. Most of the time, I kept this racial documentation private, but it was tough to talk about it during my time as an undergraduate. Diversity in the environmental movement isn’t about getting BIPOC interested because we’ve always been interested in the environment. It’s about acknowledging the oppressive structures that prevent us from having a safe and culturally sound environment to unpack tough conversations: more gender diversity, more LGBT representation, more disability representation, and anti-racist spaces.
My latest Youtube video discusses if it’s worth getting an environmental science degree.

What is Gremlincore? Are you a gremlin? A gremlin What is Gremlincore? Are you a gremlin?
A gremlin is a mischievous folkloric creature invented at the beginning of the 20th century to explain malfunctions in aircraft originally and later in other machinery, processes, and their operators. Depictions of these creatures vary widely.
Gremlincore, formerly known as goblincore is an aesthetic trend that has risen on social media to counter the popularity of cottagecore, the lifestyle center's more straightforward, uniform look. It takes inspiration from lore folklore and depicts goblins as magical creatures with intrinsic relationships with the land. Gremlincore is an aesthetic and subculture inspired by the folklore of gremlins, centered on the celebration of natural ecosystems usually considered less beautiful by conventional norms, such as soil animals and second-hand objects.
The trend celebrates fungi, furry and slimy animals, and moss-covered stones, and romanticizes things found in nature than material objects. For the sustainability component, gremlincore also seeks to maximize individuals' homes by collecting small objects that can be redesigned for better usage in individuals' homes.
Disclaimer: While it is essential to address the modern depictions of goblins are problematic that reinforce antisemitic tropes, it is necessary to shift terminology to a more inclusive way. Let's continue to evolve together! Gremlincore is an inclusive term that is evolved from goblincore to ensure everyone can enjoy it without harming anyone's culture.

Climate Activists in Germany are defending a villa Climate Activists in Germany are defending a village from demolition and need our help. I stand with Lutzerath #LuetziBleibt
Climate activists pledged to defend a tiny village in western Germany from being bulldozed to expand a nearby coal mine that has become a battleground between the government and environmental activists.
The open-cast mine, which provides a large share of the lignite — a soft, brownish coal — burned at nearby power plants, is scheduled to close by 2030 under a deal agreed last year between the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia and utility company RWE.
The company says it needs the coal to ensure Germany’s energy security, which has come under strain following the cut in gas supplies from Russia since the invasion of Ukraine.
But environmental groups have blasted the agreement, saying it will still result in hundreds of millions of tons of coal being extracted and burned. They argue that this would release vast amounts of greenhouse gas and make it impossible for Germany to meet its commitments under the 2015 Paris climate accord.
Follow the following pages below to find out more information. For any questions, please reach out to my friend @saraisaveganphotographer, a climate justice activist in Germany working closely on this campaign and thank you for bringing this issue to my attention. Source: VOA News Article

The chasm of pain, unpublished and unfinished writ The chasm of pain, unpublished and unfinished writing ✏️
Where do you carry your pain? In your mind, heart or stomach. Crawling behind the depths of a chasm. The pressure we have results in how much we’ve leaned into one part of our bodies, whether to survive or to become the most vulnerable.
It took me a while to understand the gate of pain. The tension, sadness, confusion, and anxiousness clouded myself in a state of chaos. I had always known as a child, that there was a deep, deep pain in my heart. I carried it for years, tried to drown that pain away in selfless acts of misery, gave my bits of pieces to those I’ve loved, and anxiously grabbed on to what was bruised inside of me of one that felt loss.
It felt like a sword ⚔️ was entering my heart every single time I was disappointing myself until the day that I said no more. Years of experiencing isolation brutalism, I have become my own wizard 🧙 to begin the process of removing every blade that was embedded next to my soul. It feels easier to breathe, it feels easier to express, and it feels liberating to write ✍🏽
I will always feel pain as life is continuous but that doesn’t mean I get to continue torturing my heart. Perhaps every moment wasn’t deserving but it made me who I am today as vulnerable as I can be to humanity. My power is my pain and beauty.

You rarely see me in a suit, but you’ll probably You rarely see me in a suit, but you’ll probably see me in an oversized grandpa sweater with a basket in the forest. Goblincore is much to more liking than cottagecore because it focuses on maximalism that centers the celebration of ecosystems while appreciating the weirdness that is sometimes not seen as beautiful in certain norms of society. Fungi, soil, and non-human animals are considered weird in other eyes, and these are all living systems that give us the true diversity and beauty that Mother Earth offers. Upcycling twigs to the basket, regenerating the soil, and foraging for local food is nothing to be scared of but the understanding we face a loss of ecological knowledge today.
Goblincore is a subculture of the ominous and unknown ways we collect memories through songs, items, movements, or interactions. These are all place-based experiences that allow us to invert the power of time. In Latin American culture, Goblins, gnomes, or witches are denoted in mythology and folklore tales, especially in Mexico, in which they invite individuals to play or commit jokes on them. During my time in Mexico, I heard a lot of conversations around the Duende which is an interesting take, and I hope to explore more in the future. There is a whole town dedicated to honoring these types of folklore creatures.
Cottagecore sometimes presents isolation brutalism that reinforces ideas of monocultures and self-sustainability that don’t center on the need for communal living. Goblincore is an inclusive approach that embraces our messiness in the ways we are as humans and celebrates redesigning a future utopia filled with diversity. After all, mushrooms, toads, soil, and green clothes are my go-to, haha. Are you team cottagecore or goblincore?

My dad drove me a few weeks ago to LAX, and we sta My dad drove me a few weeks ago to LAX, and we started to talk about how the mountains were green again and how there would be more work for gardeners because there is more grass. He reminded me that as Los Angeles has become hotter, it has affected his work opportunities. More drought = less greenery = less demand for garden work. When I was little, my parents would play The Beatles and I’d sit in the backseat on the freeway and look at the mountains. I miss the cloudy days and whenever I have visited, I’ve been met with dry, hot temperatures. We are losing water rapidly, yet the city government demonizes poor people for taking 5-minute showers when we should make systemic changes to how water is being used. As I’m preparing my move back for Los Angeles, I’m scared for the future of California.
So much of Los Angeles has changed every time I come home and this flooding sets a precedent for the amount of damage it will cost the state. Nearly 1 billion dollars it will cost for CA to repair damage to the infrastructure, homes, and biodiversity loss. How much of that funding will be equitably distributed? How will car insurance go up knowing we will face massive flooding and fires?
What is your experience with California flooding?

How many times have you heard your work was not en How many times have you heard your work was not enough from your parents, siblings, work, school, or friends? Uniformity is our greatest enemy we face in the fight for diversity of thought and more than ever before I’ve had to free myself from the preconceived notions of how people will decipher my work. I remember having a friend for years who would always tell me that my work was never good enough.
They were partially right, my work is constantly evolving and it is learning to be more gentle in the way I process, analyze, and say things. But what I found is that how much of my own subjugation to suffer was to please another individual that was never going to like my work would bare a heavy burden on my heart. My work is my story, it’s my journal, it’s my home and it’s makes me full. I am enough to myself, perhaps not there fully yet with my community but that doesn’t mean I’m disconnected from humanity. We need to give ourselves more grace before allowing the thought of an individual to consume our minds.
After all, what brings me deep joy now in life is environmentalism; examining the scared, living, non-living systems that interact with us on a daily basis. If I can go back in time for all the people who constantly said it’s not enough for them, I’d say, you’re right, it’s not enough for you - but it’s enough for myself. Give yourself time to celebrate your existence, the people you’ve met, the family you’ve made, and most importantly the heart you keep sacred in your hand that no one else sees.

For #Veganuary2023 I will be releasing videos on Y For #Veganuary2023 I will be releasing videos on Youtube that explore the conversations around binary statements, vegan capitalism, and animal liberation + speciesism. I don’t like the question, do you think everyone can go Vegan (there is multiple layers to unpack.) When I first went Vegan, I’d say, “Go Vegan” without providing context, information, or resources to individuals. While that only lasted about a month before understanding how I wanted to communicate Veganism, I’ve found that multiple truths co-existed within movements. Some people who are poor/ live in poverty are Vegan and those who are poor/ live in poverty cannot be Vegan. The dimensions of poverty in an urban area differ from other metropolitan areas or even rural areas.
The work of who I represent is more than enough to give people understanding, resources, and information on why I am Vegan. However, I do not expect people to follow the same framework or values I operate in because it would lead to an endless circle of arguments. My theory of change on Veganism is to educate and empower someone than to throw out binary statements and expose people to constant graphic images of animal slaughtering. While that may be the tactic for others to get people to go Vegan, I have found that when it comes to communicating with many BIPOC communities, we sometimes operate differently. We must discuss the intersecting issues around immigration, food systems, and food justice.
As someone who gets asked why I didn’t go Vegan as a teenager, the truth is that I had no financial autonomy nor choice to choose the food I wanted. I went to food banks where most of the food was meat, dairy, and bread. My parents refused to buy anything plant-based related, and although some dishes were plant-based, it was difficult for me to advocate for myself. Now, I have a choice, access, and privilege. People around my social circles who also have the same educational + financial privilege know that I am advocating for them to be Vegan or consider plant-based diets because they have the economical choice + access to do so.

Published in @voguemagazine - watch the full video Published in @voguemagazine - watch the full video. Evidence-based hope is described by one of my favorite authors and scholar Elin Kelsey as the sense of optimism not rooted in wishful thinking, but hope that is based on the progress that is being made and continuing to be made. For many people, local solutions is what has helped us survive whether that was learning how to sew, forage, cook, build, design, and so many more!
When I see people place their full faith on large scale technocratic solutions that are often exclusionary and do not incorpore justice oriented values, what ends up happening? Sometimes failure. Sometimes even waste of money. I see sometimes at climate conferences of putting mussels on cows to reduce carbon footprints - really? How is that getting funded but not the work that grassroots activists are doing to reduce harm in their communities.
As much as there are reasons to be anxious, fearful, or sad about climate change, there are similarly reasons to be optimistic about what will change and feel prideful about solutions being implemented. Recognizing both our problems and solutions is an essential feature of evidence-based hope. Watch the full video on the Vogue website.
