Queering Climate mixer that I co-hosted 🌈 happe Queering Climate mixer that I co-hosted 🌈 happened yesterday and I’m so happy to say it was a huge success 🥹♥️ Thank you to everyone who showed up and wanted to spend the evening together.

This event was a collaborative effort event with a team of Queer environmentalists like @ohsodom @karan1710 @maksim.sn0w @nathanmetenier where we had the idea of hosting an event that centered the need for Queer / Trans environmentalists to come together.

Thank you to @krystalframe from @sustainframe who decorated and food styled our event and the @theknifefactory that wanted to have us in this space.

We had environmentalists from the Global South that spoke their truth, which we will share (once we have permission + get the footage to share with you all).

The sad truth is that this day was also filled with challenges. In fact here’s what happened, I hadn’t eaten the entire day because I had been moving from event to event during Climate Week NYC. I had to check in with myself and say how am I supposed to be saving the planet when I can’t even nourish my body. Events take a lot of work and this is what keeps me going in the fight, is to bring people together.

Thank you to contributing partners like @miyokoscreamery @tonyschocolonely_us @liquiddeath @drinkcasalu that contributed and showed up for this event ♥️🙏🏽 If you want to get involved in Queering Climate let me know in the comments below.

Climate Week NYC has begun and I attended the Marc Climate Week NYC has begun and I attended the March To End Fossil Fuels where several organizations, collectives, and activists came together to demand for a just climate transition 🔥 It breaks my heart to see how young people are being robbed from their future. There is a common understanding that the upcoming years will continue to get worse if we don’t hold our governments accountable.

The time is now to continue building movements and uprooting and collapsing harmful narratives.

I feel strange being back in NYC since I moved here back in 2019 and left recently in 2023 after wanting to be back in Los Angeles. I often find myself remembering about what I wanted to do / struggling to find an environmental career. This trip has begun with many twists and turns, I’ve been documenting the process in a video so I’ll share with you all soon.

There was chanting, music, and old friends that I’ve done environmental work in the past. I’m so thankful for today. So much to unpack.

Raise your hand if you got made fun of for wearing Raise your hand if you got made fun of for wearing thrifted clothing growing up 🖐. Growing up poor but sustainable as a Latino is now live . My second episode is out on YouTube with @cerowastecindy talking about ways in which many cultural communities (not just exclusive to Latine communities). One of our favorite shared memories is La Segunda which is the Thrift Store.

I had never shopped at a mall until I was maybe 15 or 16 when I went with my sister to go buy fast fashion. Now, it was only one shirt that I bought and I felt like a “cool kid” because I was buying clothes that everyone was wearing. A lot of the clothes I’ve had and still have today are from either my dads closet or thrifted clothing that my parents expected me to fit in by the time I got older. I remember the first time attending a predominately affluent school and a kid was laughing at me because he said I was wearing poor people clothes. I was only 9 years old when he said the comment but I remember vividly how much this boy hated me because of my clothes.

Looking back it was not traumatizing but interesting to see how the rich would look down on the poor just because our parents weren’t buying the latest fashion. Now I’m glad Thrifting is adopted and normalized for everyone because we have so many clothes in our market. And I hope there is less bullying now that Thrifting has become more normalized for younger generations.

What are your memories of growing up poor but sustainable?

To choose to love in both a living and dying world To choose to love in both a living and dying world is an act of humility. Many of us have felt loveless on a land meant to love. Navigating our lives on a death wheel that expects us to mechanize our hands, minds, and hearts into the greater tentacle of the beast is an endless spiral of oppression, doubt, and hopelessness. I'm no longer interested in hearing the ecologies of those who have "made it," but those who were discarded and sacrificed themselves to the point of being burnt out and never returning to the places they once loved.

The death of love disappearing from spaces is untrue. It's morphed, bent, and split into fragments of corridors across the sea, forest, and desert. I choose to love today, tomorrow, and forever.

Took my first sewing class at @sewfyi with @climat Took my first sewing class at @sewfyi with @climatediva and let me tell you all, this was my first ever tote bag I created through upcycled fabric ♻️ 🥺

I feel so accomplished to have been thrown into this introduction class to be able to learn how to use the sewing machine. To be quite frank, it’s not so easy to using a sewing machine. My earliest memories of the machine was sewing my mother sew and repair a lot of my clothes. What scared me wasn’t the needles it’s the mechanics of how to properly use the machine. To be honest I messed up a lot and had to rethread the machine but that gave me extra practice to get comfortable. More than ever, I’ve been wanting to invest in learning more skill sets that challenge me to be patient and to become more in depth with my relationships with clothes. I want to know how to knit, repair, and Upcycle fabrics in the future.

Have you taken a sewing class before 🧵?!
